Escrow is a legal arrangement in which a third party (Payburse) holds money while a transaction is being finalized. In digital commerce, this prevents "pay and disappear" scams. The buyer pays Payburse, the seller ships the item, and we only release the money once the buyer confirms they have the product as described.
A bank transfer is final—once the money leaves your account, you have no way to get it back if the seller scours. Payburse adds a **safety layer**. The money sits in a neutral vault. It only moves to the seller when the delivery is successful. It protects both parties' integrity.
Payments & Withdrawals
We maintain a transparent capped pricing model. We charge **1.5%** per transaction, but this fee is **capped at ₦2,000**. Whether you sell an item for ₦500k or ₦5M, the maximum you'll ever pay for the escrow protection is ₦2,000. Merchant accounts can toggle who pays the fee (Buyer or Seller) in settings.
Once a buyer approves a transaction, the funds become "Available" instantly. Withdrawal requests placed before 4:00 PM on business days are typically processed and hit your bank account the same night or next morning.
Security Protocols
Sentinel AI is our proprietary fraud-prevention layer. It uses biometric facial verification (comparing your live photo to your government ID) to ensure that the actual account owner is the one performing the transaction. This eliminates "identity theft" and account takeover risks.
Absolutely. We do not store your raw BVN or NIN. We use bank-grade encryption to pass your data to the NIBSS/government agencies for verification only. Our platform is fully compliant with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR).
Disputes & Mediation
The seller must upload **Tracking Proof** or **Delivery Confirmation** (Waybill/Photos). If a dispute is raised, our human mediators review this proof. If the seller has valid logistics proof from an approved courier, we release the funds. If the seller cannot prove delivery, we refund the buyer.
